Bridge CurbingBridge CurbingWilliams Stone Company offers a complete line of bridge curbing fabricated at our East Otis facility. It is available predrilled for anchors in straight and curved curbing, as well as in a variety of sizes and finish treatments, as follows:

Standard Sizes

Bridge curbing can be provided in a variety of lengths. See our bridge curb section of our detail drawings page for the following state specifications:

  • Connecticut: 6"x 9½" or 12" bridge curb, straight & radius, manufactured in accordance with M.12.06 of the State of Connecticut Department of Transportation Standard Specifications for Highways and Bridges.

  • Massachusetts: 6" x 8" granite bridge curb, straight & radius, manufactured in accordance with M9.04.1, section 501.66 of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Public Works Standard of Specification for Highways and Bridges.

  • New York State:
    • NYS F-1, 5" x 5.5" [IN STOCK]
    • NYS G-1, 5" x 7.5
    • NYS R-1, 9" x 13.5"

Finish Options

The standard finish for bridge curbing is sawn top, split face. However, in addition to these standard finishes, any of the following may be custom ordered:

  • Sawn top, Split Face, Sawn FaceSawn top (standard): the top of the curb has a smooth finish created by saw cutting.

  • Thermal Top, Split Face, Sawn FaceSplit face: the face of the curb has a rough finish created by being split.

  • Thermal top: the top of the curb has a finish created by being sawn, then braised with a blow torch to roughen the surface to give it a safer, sandpaper-like surface.

  • Sawn face: the face of the curb has a smooth finish created by saw cutting. Not available on radius curves. Note that sawn faces can also be thermaled with a blow torch to roughen the surface to give it a sandpaper-like surface.

  • Thermal face: the face of the curb has a finish created by being split or sawn, then braised with a blow torch.

  • Clean back: protrusions greater than 1/4-inch are removed using hand tools to create a smoother surface and stay within tolerance. This is the standard back finish for bridge curbing.

  • Sawn back: provides the ultimate clean back; available on vertical straight curb only.

Edge Detail Options

There are five basic edge details that may be specified to the exposed edges of a bridge curb:

  • Straight edge (standard).

  • Rounded edge: one or both edges are chamfered and then rounded off to 1/2-inch or greater radius.

  • Chamfer: 45-degree bevel is standard, 1/2", 3/4" or 1".

  • Buzzed edge: 1/4-inch chamfer (or eased) edge.

  • Beveled mountable: 45-degree chamfer is standard, up to 3" x 3", 4" x 4", or 5" x 5".

Joint Options

There are three basic joint options available for bridge curbing:

  • Full: a straight cut with 90-degree angles at top and bottom. Unless otherwise specified, this joint is considered standard.

  • Mitered: an angled cut, top to bottom of curb reveal, allowing the end of one curb piece to butt into the face of another curb.
